- Chicago Bears
Most of you are aware that I am a Bears fan so the news of today's hiring of Mike Martz as the Bears new offensive coordinator is double edged. The Bears new hire who is known around the league as a pass happy offensive madman ensures that Jerry Angelo (GM) and Lovie Smith won't be long for Chicago which is the good part. The worse side is the fact that Martz's offense is great when you have the right personnel, but at the same time can get your quarterback killed. For the Bears the later is more likely to happen. The Bears have very little offensive talent outside of Cutler and the wide receivers they do have are the furthest thing from MENSA members you can find. Martz runs a very complex offense that is predicated on long routes which need a lot of time to develop. The Bears current offensive line won't be able to provide that protection, meaning Cutler will be hit even more than he was this past season which was an awful lot. Cutler is the Bears franchise no matter how many people don't like it (due to last season's performance), but with the money and talent given up for him, Jay must work in Chicago.
The drama that the Bears will be will provide great fodder for my blog and viewing pleasure (HBO here is your 2010 Hard Knocks). With Martz's ego added in with Lovie Smith's inability to change multiplied with Rod Marinelli on the same staff after firing Martz should make for great theatre. We didn't mention what a bunch of clowns the Bears players will look like on the field under Martz and Lovie Smith's worn out Tampa 2, the football should be so bad it will be funny. Number 1 pick in 2011 draft here we come. It might be a quarterback, because it is possible that Cutler may be dead after the 2010 season.

So let me get this straight: the Bears have decided to take a QB who throws the ball at will to receivers who can't catch or run routes and mix him with Mike Martz?
That's gonna work out great! I'm sure you can't wait for 2010 to start.
On a serious note, if Chicago can get Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin, then Martz could lead them to a great year - but only if they go out and get a good receiver.
