Don't Tell Me

I reside in an NFL city that not only has great history and tradition, but also one of the greatest and loyal fan bases in the NFL. Here in Chicago though we face a dilemma with our franchise and more importantly their management and coaching staff that football is such a diverse and complicated sport that there is absolutely no way that an average fan can understand either the game or how to run a franchise.

Well, to those professional teams, management and whoever else wants to tell their fan base they just wouldn't or don't understand the complexities of money issues, personnel decisions and most importantly a child's game, I would like to tell you. Don't tell me how complicated your cushy life styles are in making decisions about a "GAME." A "GAME" that I have played from the time I could tie my shoes, a "GAME" that is less complicated than chess, a "GAME" where the best player should be on the field, not the highest paid and a "GAME" that is losing touch with what has made it the most popular sport in America. The all mighty dollar has clouded the judgements in football from the top to the bottom. From the management all the way down to the players. In the great city of Chicago the stadium is no longer filled with the passionate fan, but with corporate types with the big bucks who can afford to see the game action live. The stadium is almost as quiet as it would be at an opera and at times as lively as an audience at a business seminar.

The decisions you face are the same as all of deal with in our daily lives, at work, home and in the public. Yes, your jobs have become increasingly difficult with the rash of ways news, reports and opinions have hit the mainstream, but your decisions are not life and death. They are a form of entertainment and you make a very profitable living from a "GAME" that is much easier to understand than healthcare reform. You, the football genius may have more knowledge and may better understand all the complexities of the goings on within and outside of the "GAME", but please don't treat me like your profession is rocket science. As a fan of the NFL and a certain team I deserve to know what is going on and why it does even if I didn't understand, because without me, without us fans you wouldn't have that cushy job.
