Final Phantasy: Must Plays & No Ways

If you're not in the playoffs yet they should be starting very soon. Within the next few weeks there will be huge line-up decisions to be made, especially since there are some NFL squads that will have playoff and seeding positions all locked up. So we here at Touchdown Dance are here to make some of those decisions a tad bit easier. Here is our Must Plays and No Ways for NFL/fantasy football Week 15.

  • Must Plays

Quarterbacks

  1. Kurt Warner (Arizona) Warner had a horrible game against the 49ers where nothing worked on the offense besides giving it to the opposing team. This week the Cardinals visit Detroit to play the Lions which will have the Cardinals offense back on track in now time at all. Warner should get extra snaps with the Lions more than likely starting Duante Culpepper on Sunday.
  2. Joe Flacco (Baltimore) The Bears are due for another blowout and the Ravens offense found a very nice rhythm last weekend against the Lions. Look for it to continue against the Bears who sound like they have quit on their coach and the remainder of the season.
  3. Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia) The Niners will be riding high coming into Philly this weekend, but the combo of McNabb to Jackson will prove to be too much for the improving defense. McNabb looks cool and calm and glad to have his best weapon back on the field.

Running Backs

  1. Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville) The Colts have done a very nice job in stopping the run as of late, but with an even more banged up defense the Jaguars will look to MJD and the offensive line to score some points and eat up the clock.
  2. Thomas Jones (NY Jets) Not to shabby for a running back over thirty. He's fit, trim and ready to run over some Falcon defenders. The Falcons season is just about over and the defense has regressed from the beginning of the year.
  3. Ray Rice (Baltimore) If you listen to Chicago sports radio you would hear the inevitable from Bears players that their season is over and it's time to pack it in. Meaning Ray Rice will add to some already impressive sophomore stats.

Wide Receivers

  1. Randy Moss (New England) He may or may not have quit on his team last week, but this week Moss will prove he is more grown up than earlier in his career in putting up his best game in the last month. Brady will back up his own talk and look for Moss repeatedly.
  2. Anquan Boldin (Arizona) Fitzgerald is a little sore and the Lions don't tackle very well. Which equals big game for the YAC master (Boldin) who will run past, over and every which way past the Lions defenders.
  3. Vincent Jackson (San Diego) The Chargers offense is on a roll and will continue that against the mourning Bengals. Look for Jackson on a few long ones beating an injury depleted Bengals secondary.

Tight Ends

  1. Brent Celek (Philadelphia) The Eagles second best receiving weapon will have plenty of opportunities over the middle against the over eager Niners defense.
  2. Visanthe Shiancoe (Minnesota) The Vikings offense was just OK in a last week win over the Bengals, but this week they get to play the massively injury depleted Panthers defense. The Panthers are down to 5th/6th string linebackers which will leave an open middle for Shiancoe.
  3. Fred Davis (Washington) Look for the 2nd year guy to have a big game against the Giants who have a horrible defense up the middle. With bad safety play and a injured middle linebacker Davis could have his biggest day as a pro.
  • No Ways

Quarterbacks

  1. Eli Manning (NY Giants) He's been putting up good fantasy production in his past few games, but the Redskins defense is very good and doesn't give up many big plays, look for Eli to have a bad day while the Giants slide out of playoff contention.
  2. Jay Cutler (Chicago) As I've said earlier in this post the Bears have seemed to quit on the season. Add that to the fact the Ravens defense doesn't give up many touchdowns and Cutler's pension for throwing the interceptions equals bad fantasy day for the diabetic wonder.
  3. Carson Palmer (Cincinnati) He really only has one good target to throw to and when that's taken away will find himself either handing the ball off or on his duff looking up at a Chargers defender.

Running Backs

  1. Cedric Benson (Cincinnati) Benson has been a little slow since returning from his hip injury and this weekend the Chargers will key on stopping the league's comeback player of the year from beating them.
  2. Rashard Mendenhall (Pittsburgh) If the Steelers are going to win this weekend it will be upon the arm of Ben Roethlisberger, because the Packers defense will do their damndest to take away the running game from the defending champs.
  3. Brandon Jacobs (NY Giants) He has been running "much harder" as of late, but this week will face the toughest defense they seen in the past month. Bringing Jacobs back to his soft, tripping over his own feet ways.

Wide Receivers

  1. Steve Smith (Carolina) It really is too bad that Smith is stuck on such a bad offensive team, but such is the case for one of the biggest fantasy disappointment this year. Making matters even worse is even more injuries this time to the offensive line where they lost the starting RT for the season.
  2. Santonio Holmes (Pittsburgh) More than likely Holmes will be match-up against Charles Woodson who might possibly be this year Defensive Player of the Year. Roethlisberger will look short to Ward, over the middle to Miller and deep to Wallace while Holmes is blanketed by Woodson.
  3. Roddy White (Atlanta) The offense was able to move last week against the Saints while at home, but this weekend while visiting the Jets ad Darrelle Revis White won't be productive much at all.

Tight Ends

  1. Greg Olsen (Chicago) If you haven't benched him yet than do so quickly. Another disappointment in fantasy circles Olsen will drop more balls as he gets clobbered over the middle while the Bears are in Baltimore.
  2. Zach Miller (Oakland) Three words, Charlie Freakin Frye. When you have that guy under center than your disappointing season is sure to continue. Miller while talented is stuck in a horrible situation with a horrible offense.
  3. Jeremy Shockey (New Orleans) As of late Shockey has been targeted as much and this should continue against the Cowboys who are decent up the middle, leaving most of the Saints scoring to the guys on the outside.

Touchdown Dance: Confidence Picks Challenge & Spread Selections (Week 15)

It's been a rough past month for me in both the Confidence Picks Challenge and our Spread Selections, but I vow to turn both of those around this NFL weekend. Remember, any reader, guest, friends and family are welcome to join us here at Touchdown in the Confidence Picks Challenge. Leave your picks on the comments section of this post or email them to me at mcspazz@tddance.com. Number your selections 16 to 1, 16 being your most confident winner this week and 1 being your least.

Like all weeks I am willing to put my humility on the line if someone beats me. On FanvsFan.com I record fancast for the Confidence Picks Challenge and humiliate myself on the web for the whole world to see. Check FanvsFan.com today for my recording as my kids will be beating me to a pulp while I record this weeks Confidence Picks Challenge. This was due to a loss in last week's challenge to of all people my little sister. If I am to lose this week next week I'll eat a large spoonful of mayo (which makes me gag, just by the smell) on next week's Confidence Picks Challenge fancast on FanvsFan.com. You may witness me throw-up, won't that be entertaining. Please check out the rest of my fancast at FanvsFan.com for some good laughs and as always on the spot NFL info.

You can also find a link to my fancast on the Touchdown Dance sidebar and please go and vote for any debates I may be involved in at the time of your visit. Enough of the babbling, let's get to our picks.

Injury Issues: Thursday Night Edition (Week 15)

Tonight's game brings an interesting twist in how long the Colts decide to go with their starters and big contributors being that they already wrapped up home-field advantage throughout. The Jaguars are fighting for their playoff lives and will sure to bring their best effort leaving the Colts worried about injuring players for what they hope will be a long playoff run. Here's a look at the injuries that may already contribute to the outcome of the AFC South match-up.

  • Indianapolis Colts

What I'm Reading

A couple of weeks back I wrote a post about fantasy football and its effect upon the people who play it. Some have fun with it, some are obsessed with it, some are good, others are lucky and mostly there are a ton of people playing it. I got the idea for the post from a book I was reading, Committed by Mark St. Amant. While writing the post I did a little more research on the writer St. Amant and I found he wrote another book. I enjoyed his writing, it made me laugh and I felt he was a guy I felt I could hang out with and heave a few beers.

So I decided to pick up his other book that I found out through his website. It too was about football, Just Kick It was St. Amant's venture into semi-pro football as a thirtysomething, completely inexperienced, smallish-sized kicker. While I liked his first book, this book is an absolute great read. It's a great look into semi-pro football, friends, family, life and the brotherhood that comes along with playing sports together no matter your color, creed, age or skill level. I'm only three quarters the way through the book, but I felt the need to share this book with all of my readers and guests. So if you like not your average sports story, some humor, good life stories and rooting for the underdog, pick this book up.

Touchdown Dance: NFL Power Rankings & Week 14 Round-Up

Unlike last week all of the top tier teams took care of their respective business. Where the big changes come is the further fall of the defending champs and some mediocre squads showing why they are inevitably stuck in the blob of parity which is the NFL. Here's a look at our latest NFL Power Rankings here at Touchdown Dance and how the teams arrived there after Week 14.

  1. Indianapolis Colts (13-0) (-) Peyton Manning didn't have his best performance of the season, but 4 touchdown passes sure ain't bad in a 28-16 victory over the visiting Broncos. Now lets see if they rest the regulars since they now possess home-field advantage throughout.
  2. Minnesota Vikings (11-2) (2) After losing last week to their best opponent to date the Vikings came back and beat up against their toughest opponent to date in beating the visiting Bengals 30-10. While the Vikings still have an outside shot at home-field throughout they must concentrate on securing that first round bye first.
  3. New Orleans Saints (13-0) (2) The 26-23 victory in Atlanta once again has my faith wavering in the undefeated Saints that a long playoff run isn't in the cards for this talented bunch. Show me first and then I'll believe.
  4. San Diego Chargers (10-3) (-) After a bad start the Chargers just keep on rolling beating up on the Cowboys in Dallas 20-17 and the game wasn't as close as the score may lead you to believe.
  5. Philadelphia Eagles (9-4) (7) What a difference DeSean Jackson makes. His return to the field could be directly reflected in the Eagles win over the Giants 45-38. This team still lacks the defense and running game that could get them to the big game.
  6. Green Bay (9-4) (8) The Packers didn't look very convincing, but sometimes bad teams bring you down to their level. That looks to have happened in their victory over the Bears 21-14, but Charles Woodson did further his stake for Defensive Player of the Year.
  7. New England Patriots (8-5) (11) This isn't the same old Patriots, the defense is average at best and the offense is just off. Even with that said this veteran group still has the savvy and talent to make a long run into the playoffs. The uninspiring 20-10 victory of the Panthers could make or break the season for them.
  8. Cincinnati Bengals (8-5) (6) The lackluster wins over bad teams has finally caught up with this bunch when they faced a tough team in enemy territory. The Vikings played the Bengals tough beating them 30-10 and may have brought this bunch back to reality a bit.
  9. Arizona Cardinals (8-5) (5) it looks as if the 49ers took this rivalry a lot more serious than the Cardinals did. The Niners handed the Cards their second defeat to them 24-9 where the Cardinals looked totally unprepared to play.
  10. Denver Broncos (8-5) (9) Going into Indianapolis and winning is a tough task which proved to be true with the Colts beating the visiting Broncos 28-16. Brandon Marshall had an amazing game, but moral and records don't count to the win column.
  11. NY Giants (7-6) (12) The Giants defense is a big mystery in the NFC East this year and still wasn't found this weekend in the loss to the Eagles 45-38. The offense did more than their share for the win, but that is why the three phases of the game are so important.
  12. Miami Dolphins (7-6) (13) This team plays so very hard, tough defense and just enough offense the Dolphins pulled out a road victory 14-10 in Jacksonville. This team probably won't make the playoffs, but are not far away from being a NFL powerhouse.
  13. Dallas Cowboys (8-5) (10) The December woes continue for the Cowboys with another loss in their month of despair to the visiting Chargers 20-17. This weeks Saturday night game against the Saints will be the determining game of their playoff hopes.
  14. Tennessee Titans (6-7) (15) The Titans crushed the Rams 47-7 where Chris Johnson continued to reek havoc on NFL defenses and almost everyone got involved in the fun. Though the Titans may not make the playoffs they will make the rest of the season miserable for their remaining opponents.
  15. NY Jets (7-6) (19) Who needs a stinken quarterback? Not the Jets, just some old-fashioned smash mouth football of running and tough defense leads the Jets to a 26-3 victory in Tampa Bay.
  16. Jacksonville Jaguars (7-6) (14) If the season ended today the Jags would be in the playoff, but unfortunately for them it doesn't. With a decent team visiting Jacksonville the Jags couldn't get it done, losing to the Dolphins 14-10. This team isn't good against good teams let alone mediocre squads and with the Colts coming on Thursday it could be the last time the Jags hold onto a playoff spot.
  17. Baltimore Ravens (7-6) (18) The cure came to town for the Ravens woes in the form of the Detroit Lions. The Ravens got healthy and back into playoff talk with the 48-3 win at home.
  18. Houston Texans (6-7) (20) Another squad that doesn't get it done when the chips all on the table. This weekend the pressure was off with a bad Seahawks in town and came out with a big win 34-7.
  19. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-7) (16) Where's the hell, Coach Tomlin? Looks like it's being brought to the Steelers instead. Losing to division rival and league punching bag Browns 13-6 looks to have the Steelers not able to defend the title.
  20. Atlanta Falcons (6-7) (17) While playing tough does get you some victories within the league it usually doesn't turn out to well against one of the best teams in the league. Still missing Matt Ryan and Michael Turner the Falcons put out a valiant effort, but came up short against the visiting Saints 26-23.
  21. Washington Redskins (4-9) (-) If only the Redskins played this kind of offense from the beginning of the year. Another quality offensive output in a 34-13 victory over the Raiders in Oakland. Look for the Redskins to spoil some of their division rivals seasons from here on out.
  22. San Francisco 49ers (6-7) (23) Sure beating the division leading Cardinals is great, but the 49ers inconsistency have them looking at the playoffs from the outside. The Niners offense is far from good, but that defense that picked up 7 turnovers in the 24-9 victory over the Cardinals was impressive.
  23. Carolina Panthers (5-8) (22) The performance of Matt Moore the past few weeks will have coach John Fox losing his job at the end of the season for sure. Though Moore isn't lighting up NFL skies with huge performances, what he has shown is much better than Delhomme have given them this season. The 20-10 loss to the Patriots should have been expected, but fear not Panthers fans this team is set for an overhaul.
  24. Buffalo Bills (5-8) (25) The offense is still pitiful, but the Bills defense is really fairly strong. Though they were only playing the lowly Chiefs the Bills defense did another admirable job in the 16-10 victory in Kansas City.
  25. Seattle Seahawks (5-8) (-) Another team that needs a make-over, the age lines are really starting to show and the 34-7 loss to the Texans just reinforced that fact even further.
  26. Chicago Bears (5-8) (-) It is really inexcusable that a team in a big market like Chicago be this bad. This isn't just a one year thing either, it is a huge problem for a team with such a large fan base. This team should be a perennial contender with what it has as far as team following and geographical placement. The loss to the rival Packers 21-14 just makes it even worse.
  27. Oakland Raiders (4-9) (26) That really is too bad that JeMarcus Russell had to see the field again, but the injury to Bruce Gradkowski brought the Raiders another loss. This time to the visiting Redskins 34-13.
  28. Kansas City Chiefs (3-10) (-) Giving Matt Cassel a contract extension may hold this franchise back for the next 5-10 years. He really is that bad and proved it once again with another poor performance in a loss to the visiting Bills 16-10.
  29. Cleveland Browns (2-11) (31) The Browns are shooting up the charts and a their biggest win of the season comes this past weekend against their rival Steelers 13-6. The offense still blows, but that short-handed defense is really flying around the field.
  30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-12) (29) If the team would have started the year with Josh Freeman under center he may be past some of the dumb mistakes he currently is making, but even with that said he may have the highest upside of any of the 1st round quarterbacks taken this past draft. The Bucs 26-3 loss to the visiting Jets was thrown at the feet of the young signal caller.
  31. Detroit Lions (2-11) (30) Duante Culpepper showed that he has nothing left in the gas tank as far as football is concerned and even more that the Lions as a team are so very far away. The embarrassing 48-3 loss to the Ravens may have broken the back of this squad's spirits for the remainder of the season.
  32. St. Louis Rams (1-12) (-) Just plain ugly was the loss to the Titans 47-7 where rookie Craig Null looked just as bad as the other three quarterbacks rolled out by the Rams this season.

Final Phantasy: Week 14 Round-Up

Another week, another split for me as far as fantasy goes. While my win in the ESPN league was hollow being that I'm in the Consolation Bracket for the playoffs. The loss in the Yahoo league tough, but not a complete blow for the Final Phantasy Title. Here's a look at how both leagues rounded out after Week 14.

  • ESPN (1st Round Playoffs)

Nick Bruiser- 115 Team Chenette- 81

The 4th seeded Team Bruiser heads to the championship game with a convincing victory which was lead by Chris Johnson (35), Ray Rice (25) and Dallas Clark with (22) points. The best team during the regular season fell short of the championship game with not much help from a couple of receivers, Anquan Boldin and Hines Ward both with only (2) points each.

I'm Butt Headed- 94 Northside Knuckleheads- 80

Team Butt Headed heads to the championship game upon the legs of Frank Gore (23) and the arm of Tony Romo with (17) points. The 3rd seeded Knuckleheads fell just short where these players could be pointed at for fault, Cadillac Williams (1), Tony Gonzalez (5) and Brett Farve with (9) points.

Dirty Sanchez- 80 Gator Bait- 72

Team Sanchez squeaked by with the help of two savvy vets, Thomas Jones (21) and Donovan McNabb (19). Team Bait fell by a slim margin and were hurt by the migraines of Percy Harvin who did not dress, Larry Fitzgerald (2) and Visanthe Shiancoe with only (1) point.

Bama Pride- 125 L Street Lunatics- 67

Team Pride racked up the most points this week and a win with the help from Andre Johnson (31), Drew Brees (23) and Reggie Bush with (19) points. The Lunatics fell once again with some more hard luck and no help from the injured Jeremy Maclin (0), Braylon Edwards (3) and Justin Forsett (6) points.

Psychopathic Eagles- 66 Chicago PackerKillerz- 59

In this very sad affair the Eagles broke a losing streak even with the likes of Clinton Portis, Chris Cooley and Dwayne Bowe all in the starting line-up, but did get great production from Brandon Marshall (32), Matt Schaub (20) and Maurice Jones-Drew (13). The PackerKillerz horrible season is just about over and continue their losing ways with little help from Kurt Warner (1), Greg Olsen (1) and Steven Jackson with (4) points.

  • Playoffs 2nd Round (ESPN League)

Championship Game

(4) Nick Bruiser vs (2) I'm Butt Headed

3rd/4th Place Game

(3) Northside Knuckleheads vs (1) Team Chenette

5th/6th Place Game

(7) Bama Pride vs (5) Dirty Sanchez

7th/8th Place Game

(6) Gator Bait vs (9) Psychopathic Eagles

9th/10th Place Game

(8) L Street Lunatics vs (10) Chicago PackerKillerz

  • Yahoo League (Week 14)

Team BB- 143.30 Cleveland Steamers- 112.40

Team BB (4-10) won their 2nd in a row while racking up the high point total for the week. The high score could be attributed to these players help, Andre Johnson (43.60) and DeSean Jackson (41.80) points. With the loss the Steamers (8-6) failed to take control of Division 1 and received little help from these pass catchers, Steve Breatson (1.50) and Calvin Johnson with (3.70) points.

WonderTwinPowers- 129.40 Free Plaxico- 107.08

Team Wtp (6-8) got back on the winning track with big time production from Matt Schaub (33.40), Frank Gore (28.70) and Jamaal Charles with (24.10) points.
